Error sending messages using fortigate firewall

My Mail Server is behind fortigate firewall…
I can receive messages but cant send. Can anyone assist

Are you talking from server to server or from server to client?

  • If it’s server to server, have you tested basic port 25 connections from the server to an external mail server? (I use a basic “telnet” utility followed by a “ehlo” command.) If you connect, then I would check the firewall’s outbound rules to confirm that your mail server can make connections over port 25 externally.

  • If you can’t send messages from the client, does the client have an error message? Have you checked to see if the client ports are open on the firewall?
